New Boyz

The History

Our road to the entertainment biz started as a dream…we were both born in Los Angeles, Cali. Me: Earl Benjamin, better known as “Ben J” and Me: Dominic Thomas, better known as “Legacy”.  So let me tell you about my boy Ben J! Ben J began rapping as a young child, and always dreamed of being famous. Great in sports, he played football for nine years. Occasionally walking down the wrong path, he’d get into trouble and his mother would often send him to his room to write raps about what he did wrong….who knew that this early “training” would be an integral part of where he is today. Growing up in a single parent household, Ben J’s mother was supportive of her son’s dreams and aspirations and was confident his music career was the way to keep him out of trouble. Realizing the importance of bringing a strong role model into his life, she married her boyfriend in 2003, and together the family relocated to the High Desert region outside

of LA to ensure her son would have a better environment to grow up in.

OK now its time for me: Ben J to tell you about Legacy! Legacy also grew up without his biological father. He gained strong support and guidance from positive family and friend role models that his mother brought into his life. Raised by his mother and grandparents, his grandfather provided strong insight on leadership and the importance of family. An avid basketball player, he had dreams of the NBA of course… but he would also spend countless hours reading, drawing and writing poems. As early as age 4, he’d sneak past his bedtime just to read. He became interested in hip hop around the age of seven when he began writing raps and producing beats on his computer. He and his family’s love for music provided a support base for his musical aspirations.

And hey, same thing, moms moved their family to The High Desert for the same reason and…

Fate

Ironically, we met in 2006 and became best friends after an argument in school. After discussing our differences, we realized that we had more in common than we ever imagined. With birthdays only one day apart, love for music, similar family backgrounds, and HUGE creative minds, we got into “Jerkin”, which is the new street cultural movement: the combination of dance, music, fashion and empowering us to become positive role models in the community. By establishing our own presence thru the web and being the first to release a Jerkin single, we were able to become the frontrunners of the movement and open the road for all of our peers to do something positive in their lives instead of resorting to gangs, crime and negativity. One look at the web under “Jerkin” and you’ll see what we mean…it’s going International! With the movement underway,

we can hopefully someday move into helping others with their musical dreams as well.

Future

We write and produce our music and spend as much time as possible in our homemade studio. We were both on punishment for various parental guidance issues which we won’t go into…anyway, we did the sneak move

and started recording in our closet, which served as our vocal booth. We came up with the track and raps and “You’re A Jerk” was born! So thanks to our parents for putting us on punishment even though our cell phones got taken away from us because they caught us! Next, we connected with DJ Felli Fell at Power 106 in LA who was an early believer in the song and played it in a mixshow on the station. And boom….the song came out and blew up! We got a record deal at 17 years old with Asylum/Warner Brothers and now we’re on the road to realizing our dreams of making it in the music, film and television business. It just shows that if you believe in yourself, the sky is the limit.
