10/5/2012 How Nirvana "Stopped Hip-Hop"

Pharrell's upcoming book, "Pharrell: The Places and Spaces I've Been," features his one-on-ones with heavy hitters ranging from Buzz Aldrin to Anna Wintour to Jay-Z. In a Spin article, the magazine highlights the book's section on Jay-Z and specifically the conversation between the two artists on Grunge Music and Nirvana. Jay-Z is quoted as saying, "It was weird because hip-hop was becoming this force, then grunge music stopped it for one second, ya know?" he says. "Those 'hair bands' were too easy for us to take out; when Kurt Cobain came with that statement it was like, 'We got to wait awhile."
